The Body Lab

The Body Lab Method

A transformative training method for every BODY. As professional dancers and movement educators, we developed this all encompassing method to sculpt long, lean muscle tone, while training coordination, posture, cardiovascular endurance, strength, mobility, and balance. The Body Lab Method enhances every aspect of physical and mental strength, and through carefully designed programming, your weekly schedule targets specific goals, while providing all-around satisfying workouts!

​Each class is a curated experience to achieve optimal results in lengthening, strengthening, and sculpting the body. Together, we move with mind to muscle connection, and from intention to action, to help you realize your potential and goals. What we are most proud of, is the way our method simultaneously strengthens the mind and body- inspiring you to find your glow from the inside out and champion your inner strength and confidence!​

Meet Liana & Tara - Co-founders & Lead Educators of The Body Lab Method:

Liana Bellissimo

Co-Founder & Lead Educator

Liana Bellissimo is a professional dance artist based out of Toronto. In 2014, Liana graduated with honours from Ryerson University earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Dance. Since graduating, she has gone on to perform professionally with the Canadian Opera Company, ProArteDanza Contemporary Ballet, Ballet Creole, Alysa Pires Dance Projects and more! She has been cast in Star Trek Discovery, Reign, and A Nutcracker Christmas, and has danced in music videos for artists such as Feist, The Tenors, and Scott Helman. In 2016, she founded ACE Dance Theatre- a professional contemporary performance company where she produced, choreographed, and performed in Canada & Europe. In 2017, ACE Dance Theatre launched The Ballet Lab - a training program for young dancers between the ages of 6-18 designed to help students realize their technical potential and bridge the gap from student to professional. 

In addition to her dance career, Liana is a certified Pilates Instructor through Body Harmonics and is currently completing her Level II Reformer Certification. She also holds her coaching certification with JOGA- a yoga program designed for athletes and has trained the athletes of Gary Roberts Sports Performance Camp and The 905 Raptors. Liana is passionate about helping others find strength, health and confidence through movement and using the power of Pilates and functional movement to achieve their physical and mental goals. It brings her true joy to see her clients flourish by moving better and feeling better!

Tara Pillon

Co-Founder & Lead Educator

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Tara Pillon is a professional dance artist, choreographer, and movement educator. She graduated with honours from Toronto Metropolitan University, where she received a BFA in Performance Dance. She holds her Certificate for Russian Ballet Pedagogy and is also a member of the Professional Adjudicator's Alliance.

Tara’s choreography has been a part of international tours to Portugal, Spain, Italy, Dubai, Singapore, and China. She has choreographed for artists such as The Tenors, Bones Baby, and Ileen Laura Reeder. She has performed professionally with companies including Ballet Creole, Gadfly, Human Body Expression, Avinoam Silverman Dance, Creativiva, and more. Tara is the Co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of ACE Dance Theatre, a professional contemporary dance company, and THE BALLET LAB, a workshop dedicated to developing emerging dance artists, helping them to reach their technical & artistic goals, and bridging the gap between student and professional. 

In addition to her extensive dance background, Tara is a certified Yoga and Pilates instructor. She has a deep passion for helping others both see and fulfill their potential. She loves using the technique and art of Ballet & Contemporary Dance, along with the science of Pilates and the philosophy of Yoga, to help clients achieve optimal results in how they move, look, and feel!

The Body Lab Method was first created as a tool to help dancers with cross training - helping them train their bodies in a way that could strengthen & lengthen their muscles simultaneously, while avoiding becoming tight or restricted in their movement. The benefits were immediate. Since the inception of The Body Lab Method, we have been able to help dancers prevent & treat injuries, and develop the strength, mobility, ease & power in their movement that is required of them as high performance athletes.

In addition to training dancers, we had been working for years in the fitness field with clients of all different ages, levels, and backgrounds. In expanding our method beyond dancers, we realized the profound benefits that this training could have on all bodies, of all levels. Through The Body Lab Method, we have been able to help members achieve both the physical aesthetic and strength of a dancer.

Once we realized the benefits of combining our background in dance, with pilates, yoga, and functional strength training, we immediately saw how beneficial our method could be - for any and every BODY!
